Dawson City's hockey team arrived in Ottawa January 12, 1905, to challenge the Ottawa Silver Seven for the Stanley Cup. The Klondikers tried unsuccessfully to postpone the match one week while they recuperated from their 4,000-mile trek, but the first game against the Silver Seven went ahead the next day, January 13, 1905, before a record crowd of 2,200.
It was soon apparent the challengers were no match for the Silver Seven. Lorne Hannay was the only Dawson player to come close. The Klondikers didn't give up, though, and left wing Norm Watt, only 140 pounds, nicked an Ottawa player's head for six stitches.
